Hi All! I know I've been missing in action lately, so please forgive me! Does anyone know our trainer Joe's information or how I can get more information about his classes? I won't be at camp until next Friday.

Hey Chuck, Why were all six cars pulling out this morning at 610am when I arrived at the track? Was it because of the 41 degree weather and the fitness dew falling? See you all Monday morning weather permitting!

Ok, I'm convinced boot camp is the BOOOOOOOMMMMMMMBBBBBB!!!!!!!
This was my first session, I was walking one night because I was tired of the gym and wanted the fresh air that is when I saw "The Gladiator" with the night crew they were workin out HARD --- In my head I was like WHEW they can have that I will keep doin what I'm doin--- then the next night I saw them again but this time I asked Glady what they were doing and she gave me a flyer --- now to be honest with you I'ma bottom line kinda girl I skipped everything and went straight for the cost turned to my girlfriend (who was walking with me) and said sheesh I'm not payin anyone money to torture me we laughed and I folded the flyer up and put it in my pocket--- Now day 3 I see the same people at the track workin it out --- after my workout I found a flyer on my truck so on my way home I call one of my close friend Marcy Glenn, we were talking about some pretty random stuff and she said it's getting late I have to wake up for boot camp tomorrow ---- I'm like boot camp I heard about it it's at JFK right she said yeah and invited me to go with her at O'dark thirty in the morning (aka 530) --- My response "Marcy you done lost your mind " she told me just like this "Look it's hard but everyone is so nice and Chuck and Fryar are soooo funny you don't even realize that you are doing some crazy stuff, please girl if I can do it you can do it just come out”---- Well I went at the track at 5:15 when I saw Marcy I gave her the look during the first class I was ready to punch her in her mouth for tricking me matter fact she wouldn't even look me in the eyes lol ---- first day the running hmmmm something I haven't done since my soccer days in HIGHSCHOOL (13 years ago) as I jogged for the first time I was thinking that I could run right off the track to my car and roll out however my keys were on the bench so I would get caught had to abort that escape plan during the rest of the class I was thinking of ways to leave without getting caught when I finally got the perfect plan together class was over and I was walking next to my friend (who stayed at arms length cause she knew if she got too close she would have been assaulted) and Marcy smiled and said see you not dead you should join ---- and I did. I have done all the things that I said I could not do I have been pushed passed my limit and now I'm starting to enjoy it I have seen the weight loss I have seen the inch loss (my fav) this morning I put on a pair of 16 jeans with a fitted top and I had no muffin top --- eight weeks ago I was wearing a TIGHT 18 because I refused to go into a 20 ---- I owe all of this to my friend Marcy who got me through the door (hope your ankle gets better sis) and to the BEST trainers Chuck (the happiest man at O'dark thirty in the morn) and Glady (the gladiator who was prepared to save my life with a run to my car for the inhaler) Ya'll are the best I am so thankful to have joined sad I missed this last week but I'm working toward my degree and had to change my work schedule this week ---- I can't wait til the 14th to do it all again Boot camp has changed my appearance --- my health my sugar levels have been at an all time low since diagnosed in 2006. YAAAAAAAAY BOOTCAMP lol
And a special thanks to Mr. Bill who would not let me quit
Erica --- hopefully I can make it out tomorrow morning I have class in Cherry Hill at 8 maybe I’ll just go funky lol

Food for thought:
A former trainer told me its takes a person who is out of shape 30days to get into shape with a regular exercise regimen. AND ONLY 7 DAYS of no activity to get back out of shape! Just some words of wisdom to help keep you going over the next 14-days w/o Chuck, Glady, the Black Ninja, Marci & the rest of the BOOTCAMP STAFF! Is anyone considering a way 2 continue our own sessions maybe only 3 x's a week for 1 hour. Just a thought......any takers.....

Thanks to Bootcamp Ninja, Bootcamp Nazi, Chuck, Marcie, Glady, and ALL my Battle Buddies. I love how we all sweat through the burn and keep encouraging one another as we go. I'm thankful that I've achieved and surpassed a fitness goal on the track, and expect to do even more. People like Bootcamp Nazi and BB Gigi have been constant with the "push" and I soooo appreciate it. I'm gonna keep keeping on to be Naturally Fit & Lean!!

Hi campers. This story will be in our next newsletter, but Mr. Barksdale wanted me to post it here as well:
Becoming a better me
I ran four laps around a track for the first time in about 20 years recently.
(OK, an admission: I didn't run all four at once. Two consecutively, then two more a little later).
That may not be a big deal to you, but it's a huge deal to someone who's been pretty sedentary -- except for doing some walking here or there and a few stints at the gym -- for the last two decades.
As a former college athlete, I was once in tip-top shape. I remember the days when I could run a mile in less than 7 minutes and 15 seconds. Now, running that same mile would probably take me twice as long.
But, what I came to realize when I started the Irving Fryar Fitness Camp about six weeks ago is, I can't be the same me that I was 20 years ago. It's not physically possible. So, instead of trying to get as fit as I was at 22, I need to just be the best 43 year old that I can be.
Once I had that realization, everything changed in my workout. It's not about trying to match what I did in college, it's about being healthy and getting fit for right now.
It means eating better, exercising and making better choices healthwise. It means taking better care of myself. It means getting proper rest, listening to my body (when I'm hurting too badly, I take a day off, stretch and get back at it the next day). It means not smoking and keeping any drinking to a minimum, maybe a glass of wine here or there.
Also, when I'm out at fitness camp, I don't try to keep up with anybody else. My motto is: Do the best you can do. Or as Reverend Run says: "Do your best, and forget the rest."
Maybe wisdom really does come with age, because thinking about things in a different way has really made a difference in my workout. I don't feel defeated or deflated anymore because I am not able to do what I could do.
Sure, I'm definitely going to get in better shape than I am right now. That's a given if I keep working out the way that I am.
But, I don't have to compare myself to anybody else -- not even my younger self. I just have to do my best each and every time I go out there and leave the rest alone!!

Willingboro has approved the 5k, 10k and Half Marathon for Oct 31. Run will be for Cancer Research . We need a name for the race. Please post ideas. We got this because of the enthusiasm that this camp has brought to Willingboro. The city loves the camp and wants to work with us so we can continue to benefit and bless people. The town will also be renaming the gym inside in rememberance of Dr. Paul Stephenson and also honoring our own Wilma Stepehenson for the many years of service.

I am so glad a LFCC member told me about the Fitness Camp. Since joining 14JUL09, I am feeling more energetic, flexible and my body composite is tighter. I enjoy the circuit training and lap runs however; I do not enjoy the tardy people who show up late increasing the number of jumping jacks the rest of the TEAM has to do on their behalf. Other than the Team Irving, keep up the good work and see you tomorrow!

For all of those that have had questions about why I choose to exercise barefoot:
Checkout http://www.vibramfivefingers.com
or
http://www.wired.com/wiredscience/2009/07/barefoot/
For those that know me, I am NOT and have NEVER BEEN a runner. (I've never liked running).
However, I am getting better. (I'm working on something!)
For the record, I do not hold any investment in the company.

I did three laps and could have done more if I'd just stop looking at others. If I see people walk, I walk. If I see buddies go fast, I sorta get disgusted and seem to slow down but I love it all and really appreciate the hard work we do. I also appreciate those who keep us going, our leaders, coaches, trainers either title, I love them. I hate when lazy people are late and think they should do push ups as we do the other.

Okay. I am openly apologizing to my husband for being a bad camper. I took a sip of water in the middle of a drill and I wasn't supposed to. No one else had any water. It wasn't right. I wasn't trying to get special favor, I was just thirsty. But I am sure the rest of you were, too. So, I apologize to everyone but especially my husband Chuck Morris. I will be a good girl on Monday. Hello battle buddies. Thursday mid morning I was in the back yard cutting extended roots from a tree that was growing close if not in the foundation of my house. I used the back of a claw hammer to lift it out of the ground and got under the root with my hands, and pulled it up along its trail. I pulled up 2 long 3 inch round healthy roots and a few small long extensions. I cut the end of the long thick roots with a saw. Thanks to those upper body work outs I barely broke a sweat. I did not labor in my breathing and the work was a cinch. Thank you trainers. I am on my way to a stronger me. I'm renovating God's temple!

Hey Battle Buddies, I have truly missed you guys this week. I have been on a cruise and have eaten like there's no tomorrow. The good news is that I got up at 6 am most mornings with my husband and we ran the track at least 2 miles, definitely felt the FL. I will definitely be back Saturday morning. We will get in very late on Thursday night so not sure about Friday morning. See you soon with bells on rearing to go, need to work all of this cruise food off. Had a blast!!

Hey all! I am having a great time working it out with all of you in the morning! When I don't go, I feel so slow and sluggish all day. Thanks to all the coaches (even you, Marcie, eventhough I hate running!), you all are doing a great job in keeping me focused and encouraged. I may be married to Trouble... I mean the greatest fitness trainer this side of the Mississippi...but I have my battles to fight, too. And one of them is whipping my body into shap and submission! I am working toward that SuperWoman status! See y'all 2 morrow!
Marcie, seriously, you are doing a great job. I cannot tell you that I was ever able to run a mile and you have got me doing that! Thanks for the tips and encouragment lap after lap!

Hey Battle Buddies! Check out the August issue of Essence Magazine. . .page 134 features my weight loss story. Over the past 5 years, I've lost a total of 140 pounds. Now, I'm working out with each of you each morning (ok, most mornings!) to keep it off. Thanks for your encouragement and smiling faces everyday. "Trouble" makes fun of how much energy I have in the morning. . .no matter how many times I don't feel like training at 5:30, all of you encourage me to keep going so that I can maintain what I've accomplished this far. Remember, none of us can do it by ourselves. But ALL things really all possible! I'm a living testimony!

Someone inadvertently took my mat yesterday from the morning session. It is purple, with my name on each corner in red -- Ackles. Please return on Thursday -- no questions asked. Thanks!

Bill had talked to me for weeks about the Fryar Fitness Camp, but I was reluctant to come out. I was thinking hardcore bootcamp, and I just couldn't see myself doing something like that. I joined the game late, but I loved it from Day 1. Everyone is so upbeat, positive and friendly and you are basically encouraged to just do YOUR best. The beauty of it is, they realize that everyone is at different levels. I definitely recommend the camp. I just had my first day of the second session and I'm in it to win it.

What a rewarding experience! Beginning a fitness program at the age of 50, Yes! No matter what the age or level of fitness TODAY is the DAY to change your life! You can do this. You are Worth it. Thank you Glady, Chuck and Mr. Fryar "with an 'A' not an 'E' because that's a chicken" and Marcy who put the thought in my head months before it began. You are the BEST TEAM of Trainers - you're encouraging; pushy when encouragement fails (lol) and FUNNY!!! You make it worth getting up so early in the morning! My life has changed in the last eight weeks. I wake up every morning thanking Father for this day and grab my workout bag and head to the gym. It seems to be the "Fit" thing to do now. Bootcamp is tough - sore legs; abs; arms "glutes" - the result is priceless!
See you all next session!!!!

This has been a wonderful experience for me. At the beginning I did not know what to expect. It was HARD work, and on some mornings I did not think I could do it. But, I had a ball and loved every excruciating minute of it. I am so grateful to be a part of this and for all of my battle buddies. The support and positive energy is priceless. This past 8 weeks has helped me to hone my committment and organizational skills. It has even brought me closer to GOD, because of my schedule and getting up at 4:45 every morning to make it to boot camp, it was only by his strengththat I was able to do it. Health wise it has helped me to break the emotional connection to food, especially snacking right before going to bed. To be more aware of portion control. My blood pressure meds were reduced from 10mg to 2.5mg and then to every other day, Prase God. But, best of all I lost 13 pounds and reduced by BMI by 3%. This is all thanks to God allowing me to draw on his strength and pressing on. To Chuck, Glady and the man with his name on everything, pushing me and telling me that I could do it. Chuck, I still can not get you out of my head with the "Like it, luv it and want more of it", "Bang it out", and of course, "I see late people". All I can say is that you "Chuck" better watch out cause I got my "XS" and I will be ready for you in Session #2.

I am proud of my Saturday runners. 4 miles running and 1 walking. Did you think you would be doing 5 miles wth both feet off the ground at the sametime 7 weeks ago. Thanks Marcia and Rey for all of the tips and motivation. And sorry for not telling you all how far we were going to run. Did not want to scare you with the distance because I had faith that you would complete the run..

I proudly said, "BOOT CAMP", want some! lol Even after only 4 wks and the all the PAINFUL exercises I can see and feel a big difference in my body. THANKS BOOT CAMP! I feel wonderful.

Hey Fitness Buddies,
I'm so excited about the last 7 weeks, ( I started a week after everybody). I feel better, have some much needed energy and excercising is exciting again. ( Yes Chuck, I said it!) I wanted to share some recipes with you for Veggie/Fruit week. Check out the essence site: http://www.essence.com/recipes/dinner/info/whitebeanandkalesoup/. Also, Bryant Terry is an African American vegan with a new book: Vegan Soul Kitchen. There are some creative recipes in there but you will probably have to use tofu which Chuck is allowing next week.
Okay; have a blessed evening and see you in the grass!

Hello all! If anyone is interested in purchasing fresh fruit salad, please let me know. One of my favorite people in the world (mother) has been kind enough (thanks) to make it for me over the past few weeks. Now that fruits and veg is suppose to be our lifestyle, I thought you all may enjoy it as well. So let me know who may be interested...she will come up to camp on Monday and Thursday mornings (for now). One size--$5.00 each.

Good Morning Battle Buddies and Chuck,
One lesson I learned today - don't ever ever hit the snooze button on a rainy day!!!!! When I woke up it was 5:20 a.m. and Chuck's voice rang in my head "I see LATE PEOPLES". So, staying true to form and not slackin off while all of you were working out in the rain, I did the same. I went directly to work and did a fantastic 40 minute run around the campus - Yes in the rain. While I was not with you physically I was with you spiritually. Be well, have a blessed day. And I will see you tomorrow on time!!!

We did it. We completed a 5K. Thanks Lola for putting together for us Rey and Marcia for the running tips and encouragement. Job well done. June 13th is the next run. Looking for more campers. And by the way the shirts were for the brave ones that came out at 4:45 am something for some of you to remember your first 5K run.
